Bausch & Lomb is an American company founded after John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb in 1956. Bausch & Lomb originally created vulcanized rubber eyeglass frames and other eye related products. It wasn't until 1971 that Bausch & Lomb began creating what they're known for, soft contact lenses. In an attempt to become a more focused company, Bausch & Lomb sold Ray-Ban, a company it created in 1937 to luxury eyeware company Luxottica. In early 2007, Advanced Medical Optics showed an interest in buying Bausch & Lomb outright. Later in the year talks ceased and B&L are continuing on the path to a merger with Warberg Pincus.
