Red Eye Contacts

The most common use for the term “red eye” is an overnight or late night plane flight.  However, when dealing with contact lenses, red eye contacts are contacts that make your eye red.

Here is a red eye contact picture.

As you can see, the eye is completely red except for the pupil.  This picture is of blood red eye contacts which are some of the best selling colored contact lenses on the market today.

If you’re looking for something unique, check out red eye contacts and freak out all of your friends!

Gothic Contact Lenses

Gothic contact lenses were made popular by these Manson contact lenses. After Marilyn Manson began to lose popularity, other gothic contact lens wearing superstars entered the stage and made a variety of different types and styles of contact lenses popular.

Since those other music artists (celebrities wearing contacts) and celebrities started wearing contact lenses, the gothic scene also rose in popularity by wearing many different types of contact lenses. Gothic contact lenses don’t have a particular color scheme, but gothic contacts are usually black and white, sometimes red and rarely blue, yellow, and green.

Black gothic contact lenses and white gothic contact lenses have been popular for a long time and seem to be increasing in popularity and I expect goth contact lenses to gain popularity until goth kids stop being gothic.

Tomorrow we’ll look at Halloween gothic contact lenses and I have a great picture to show you in that post as well!

Nike Contact Lenses

While it may seem strange, we’ve had more than one customer contact us about Nike contact lenses.  The reason people are looking for Nike contact lenses is because Nike makes a “Max Sight” contact lens.  These contact lenses are generally known as Nike contacts or Nike MaxSight contacts, but are called just about everything.  Check out their official page here and here.

These contacts utilize new technology that filters out certain colors of UV light resulting in better performance depending on your sport.  For golfers the contact lenses filter out the red and green light allowing the golf ball to reflect it’s natural blue light.  This results in you being able to see the ball on the ground easily.

For those who enjoy mountain biking, the MaxSight contact lenses allow you to see shadows clearly since you know how important it is when you’re coming around a corner and see a rock or hole.

For bicyclists the Nike contact lenses filter out reflections caused by the sun hitting the hot pavement.  They also have a red glow which relaxes your eye and lets them focus for longer periods of time.

For every sport Nike offers auto tinting sunglasses (chromatic sunglasses) that provide the same effect.  Look for the Nike MaxSight contact lenses in a store or optometrist near you!

You can read more about these great Nike contact lenses at Al Conway’s website.  He is going to give his review after he’s worn them for a short while.

Bausch and Lomb also has some more information about the price of Nike MaxSight contact lenses at their website.

Can Children Use Contact Lenses?

Shonda wrote, “My child (probably both kids soon) needs glasses and has accidentally broken two pair of glasses. Can she switch to contact lenses instead of us continuing to buy new glasses?”

Thanks for the question Shonda! Regarding your child, before you do anything, make sure she isn’t breaking the glasses on purpose. Wearing glasses can be a traumatic experience for children. Other kids make fun of them and they just don’t like it.

If you still want to have your kids wear contact lenses, most optometrists allow it if the kid is older than 8 years old. Any younger and getting the contacts into the eye would be nearly impossible because of the size of the contact and the child.

As the child gets older (12 years old and older), you should have no trouble getting contact lenses. Below that and you might have to find a doctor that is willing to prescribe contact lenses. Children normally prefer wearing contact lenses when they realize the other option is to wear glasses.

Children wearing contacts really comes down to the individual child. You know your child better than anyone, is he or she ready to wear contact lenses?
